Stars Speak For Sustainability In Fashion At The Oscars 2020 Red Carpet
One of the year's most anticipated award nights; the Oscars awards, took place on the 10th of February, 2020.
The Red carpet came alive with unique designs and styles by respected designers as expected.
What was not expected was how some stars took it as an opportunity to make a statement for sustainable fashion.
One of them was the Booksmart star, Kaitlyn Rochelle Dever, who was clad in a beautiful Louis Vuitton dress made from Tencel's eco-friendly fibre. Also we sighted the V-neck bodice of Saoirse Ronan's Gucci custom dress which was as well made from a leftover black satin used to make the dress she wore last weekend to the BAFTA Awards.
Making the most outstanding statement was Joaquin Phoenix as he showed up again in the Stella McCartney Tuxedo that he had worn all season. He joined forces with english fashion designer, Stella, who is well known for her stand against textile waste, by choosing to wear the same tuxedo, styled differently throughout the awards season.
McCartney took to twitter confirming this and referring to our favourite Joker as a winner earlier this year.
Elizabeth Banks, Pitch Perfect director, apparently reached into her closet and pulled out an old red dress from 2004 (left) and wore it to the Oscars after party (right).
The only difference was the jewelry strap she removed from the dress, asides that, the Badgley Mischka Dress looked pretty much the same.
Western stars are now choosing to make statements for a healthier environment over making red carpet statements.
This support and push for sustainable fashion is definitely worth emulating in Africa.
