Oversized Victorian Sleeves are making a big comeback!
It's amazing how a fashion style can easily pop back into the fashion scene and keep trending, despite being in the fashion scene for some time now.
Our focus for today's throwback is the oversized Victorian sleeves, otherwise known as puffed sleeves, as we have noticed that they seem to be trending in recent times. The oversized victorian sleeves were first worn in the 19th century, around 1860's during the mid-Victorian perios.
The Victorian period was the period of Queen Victoria's reign of the United Kingdom, and the Queen had a high influence on fashion at the time, hence the popularity of the oversized victorian sleeves.
These sleeves have been slowly creeping back into the fashion scene since 2017. A lot of top notch designers even featured looks with victorian sleeves on the runway; designers such as Burberry, Sarah Jessica Parker and many more.
But how have they been tweaked in this century? How have they been modified to suit the modern style of this century? This is because, as you probably know, fashion styles evolve over the years, especially if they've been around for a long while.
The tops being designed with victorian sleeves now are much firmer, giving the look of a slimmer and more defined body. So if you've been on the lookout for that perfect outfit to give you that snatched look, tops with Victorian sleeves are probably a good option to consider. There are even cropped tops now that have Victorian sleeves. Amazing, right?
Usually, neutral colours are used for this kind of outfit, such as black and white and everything else in between, and it sure makes the sleeves pop!
African and Nigerian designers have also not missed out on this throwback that is making waves in the fashion industry, as we have noticed lots of African fabrics being used to make outfits with oversized victorian sleeves.
This trend has been rocked by various Nigerian celebrities, including Toke Makinwa, Bisola Aiyeola, even Funke Akindele who dazzled in a short dress with Victorian sleeves at the just concluded Africa Magic Viewer's Choice Awards after-party.

This fashion style has a distinct elegance to it, which is not far-fetched considering the pioneer of the style, Queen Victoria. It also adds an extra feminine touch to the one wearing it. The oversized victorian sleeves definitely has everything to look for in an outfit; class, elegance and confidence!
