Taibo Bacar is a leading fashion brand in the heart of Maputo, Mozambique owned by Taibo Bacar. The fashion brand, since 2008, has catered for the needs of intelligent and versatile female customers by providing ready-to-wear, high-end and evening dresses, as well as bridal wears.
The fashion designer, Taibo Bacar, since a young age, has had a keen interest in fashion designing. As a child, he always loved playing with the fabrics left over by his seamstress mother. He has over the years channeled this interest into his eponymous fashion brand despite having a background in IT.
The brand has released a number of collections which all display the rich cultural heritage of Mozambique with the bold colours and beautiful prints.
The Spring Summer 20 Collection features various outfits ranging from dresses, to pant suits, and even swim wears. The brand played around monochrome hues for this collection, as well as, embellishments for the swimwears and dresses. This collection exudes the confidence and simplicity of the Taibo Bacar woman.
The Resort 19 Collection , on the other hand showcases a different angle to the fashion brand. With bright colours and stylish silhouettes, the pieces were indeed made to be chic and classy. The bright colours with the flowery patterns portray the versatility of the outfits, as some of the outfits can be rocked casually or formally.

With the different African fabrics used for these collections, the African culture and heritage is promoted. The Taibo Bacar brand employs the use of Capulana, a type of sarong usually worn in Mozambique, and other African countries, Tweed, Jersey, Jacquard, Organza and many more fabrics, with traditional embroidery and beadings to embellish the outfits.
The brand aims to put African Fashion on the map internationally, and Taibo Bacar, the fashion designer believes that African Fashion brands can penetrate into the international fashion scene as the stage has been set by African Fashion brands like Maxhosa by LADUMA , Thebe Magugu, and his brand also being part of them.
At the Mozambique Fashion Week in 2008, he was awarded the Designer Of the Year. Also, in 2012, he was awarded the Emerging Designer Of the Year at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa 2012. The Taibo Bacar fashion brand was the first African fashion brand to showcase at the Milan Fashion Week in 2011.
